Court Warden, Ray Conger and his wife Christine Conger were recently in Boston, representing the Honourable Company at the Lord Mayor's coffee morning.

The event which is part of Lord Mayor Michael Mainelli's 100-day world tour was an opportunity for the Honourable Company to represent Freemen and members in North America as well as being an opportunity to network and solidify ties with the City.

Professor Michael Mainelli was elected in November 2023 as the 695th Lord Mayor of the City of London. His year's theme is 'Connect to Prosper' follows and builds on Alderman Vincent Keaveny’s theme of “People & Purpose” as Lord Mayor 2021-2022 and Alderman Nick Lyon’s theme of “Financing Our Future” as Lord Mayor 2022-2023.

Master Jeffrey Lewis and members of the Company (Ray Conger, Derwin Mak and Adwet Sharma) were delighted to attend the London Sheep Drive & Livery Fair 2023 in London yesterday hosted by The Worshipful Company of Woolmen. They were honoured to meet Alderman Vincent Keaveny CBE, Master of the Woolmen’s Company who was also Lord Mayor of the City of London in 2021/22 having served as Sheriff of the City of London for the year 2018/19.

Many thanks to Alderman Vincent Keaveny CBE and team for all their hard work in making this such a spectacular event.

❓ What is the London Sheep Drive & Livery Fair?

The London Sheep Drive is a unique annual event that interweaves centuries of history whilst showcasing London's cultural heritage. Originating in the 12th century, this tradition was established to raise funds for the Lord Mayor's Charity (now Appeal) and later The Woolmen Charity, highlighting the pivotal role of London's wool trade in medieval times. What sets this spectacle apart today is the sight of sheep leisurely traversing one of the historic London bridges, guided by The Worshipful Company of Woolmen or the distinguished Lord Mayor of London himself, flanked by members of various Livery Companies and Guilds watched on by Londoners and tourists alike.

The Livery Fair is a family event providing visitors the opportunity to learn about the Sheep Drive, its history and the causes that the event supports. Many livery and specialist wool companies attend displaying their time-honoured craft and wares for all to see which this year included blade shearing displays.

This is an annual event not to be missed!

We would like to congratulate our Honourary Treasurer, Jacob Bressman , on becoming a Carman this month.

Carman Bressman has been our volunteer Honourary Treasurer since May this year and is doing a fantastic job at keeping our finances in check.

Jacob and his wife flew to the UK for his clothing ceremony at xxxxxx and had to opportunity to explore the city and enjoy the livery ambience and traditions, dating back centuries.

The Carmen Livery Company, established in the heart of London's historic City, is an esteemed and venerable institution with roots dating back to the 16th century. This ancient guild, originally formed as a collective of carmen or carters, played a pivotal role in the transportation and logistics of goods within the bustling metropolis. Over the centuries, the Carmen Company has evolved into a modern and dynamic organization, dedicated to promoting excellence and professionalism in the transport industry. Today, it stands as a beacon of tradition and innovation, fostering a sense of community among those engaged in the field of logistics. The Company's commitment to education and charitable endeavours further underscores its enduring relevance in the contemporary urban landscape, solidifying its reputation as a cornerstone of London's rich cultural heritage.
